BriteSmile Review
The more I learn about BriteSmile the more I am convinced it is one of the best in-office teeth whitening methods available today. Why? Two reasons: Safety and improved oral health.
Do not mistake me. I still support at-home teeth whitening. But I have to admit light activated in-office bleaching still provides certain benefits.
The Technology
Like many other professional teeth whitening methods
BriteSmile
uses the combination of
- Powerful light activated bleaching gel, and
- Special blue light to accelerate the bleaching process.
But there are two major differences:
- The light activated gel contains only 15% hydrogen peroxide (other in-office gels go up to 35% concentrations). Light activation makes this gel work faster, so it does not have to be as powerful.
In addition the gel’s pH is 6.5 which is very close to the neutral level of 7.
- The BriteSmile light is much less powerful than the lasers used in other methods.
These two differences make BriteSmile safer than other in-office bleaching methods. That is why I prefer this method to other ones. Still this technology is very powerful.
- Gums have to be protected,
- Even your lips must have sunblock on to protect them from burns.
Treatments take about 1 hour and are supervised by professionals. Actually, the 1 hour is divided into three 20 minute treatments to avoid teeth dehydration.
Probably the most appealing benefit of light assisted teeth whitening is the fact that it kills gum decease causing bacteria. This is the other reason why I prefer this technology to traditional in-office bleaching.
The BriteSmile offer:
The first office was opened in California in 1999. Today BriteSmile is available in whitening spas and at dentist offices in almost all countries around the world.
You get a significant
discount if you book your appointment online
. I do not want to post the actual amount here because the company changes this from time to time. (Online booking is only available in the Unites States.)
Guarantee: You can choose to repeat your treatment or get a full refund if you and your dentist agree that the treatment did not whiten your teeth at all.
The company provides a substantial discount on repeated treatments within 3 years of the original visit.
The procedure is available to anyone over the age of 14.
BriteSmile Results
Finding credible information and test results about teeth whitening products is quite difficult. It takes a long time.
What I found out about
BriteSmile
was quite convincing as well.
Here is the important stuff from the most reliable reports:
Whitening power: Results were quite significant in most cases. Different sources reported average whitening that ranged around 7 to 9 shades whiter after 1 hour of treatment. In some cases whitening up to 14 shades were achieved.
The worst reported improvement was about 5 shades, but why would anyone brag about no whitening.
I found no reliable comparisons between light assisted whitening and at-home or other in-office teeth bleaching methods.
How long does it last? 1 to 2 shades of this whiteness was lost within the first 6 months. Based on this number we can estimate that on average in about 3 years all the whitening gain would be lost. (1.5 shades lost in 6 months, then 9 shades in about 3 years.)
Maintenance is a key factor here. Some people went back to the original shade in about 2 years others lost only a few shades.
Oral Health: It was scientifically tested and proved many times that bacteria can be killed using certain lasers and other lights. In tests BriteSmile treatment significantly reduced the amount of gum decease causing bacteria in almost all patients. Even better this improvement was maintained over a long time period.
However, the same improvement in oral hygiene can also be achieved by simply changing your habits.
Sensitivity: There was no reported difference between BriteSmile and other teeth whitening methods.
Conclusion
After all the research I have done: When it comes to in-office teeth whitening at this time BriteSmile is my #1 choice.
Your teeth will be whiter after this treatment or your visit is free.
You can learn more or
make your appointment here.
However, the question remains: Which method whitens your teeth better? Light assisted technology or at-home teeth whitening. I am still searching for the poof.
