Teeth Whitening – When Cosmetic Dentistry is The Only Option
When cosmetic dentistry is your only option
There are certain situations when your teeth cannot be whitened. Other times teeth whitening may not be the wise choice.
If one or more of your front teeth missing or significantly damaged you should visit your cosmetic dentist for an evaluation. Yes, you can try to bleach the other teeth but why would you want to do that? You don’t just want white teeth. You want to look good. Bridges or veneers would help you do just that.
When cosmetic dentistry is the preferred whitening method
There are certain situations when your teeth may or may not require cosmetic dentistry. Depending on your situation and budget you may still whiten your teeth at-home with limited success.
A few examples:
Perhaps you tried teeth whitening already with no success. Your teeth may be very badly stained. Perhaps you cannot tolerate the discomfort of at-home teeth whitening.
Perhaps you are not happy with the shape and size of your teeth. Perhaps they are eroded, too small or don’t align. Or you have large gaps between teeth.
Implants, crowns and fillings cannot be bleached. If you have a bridge or multiple crowns covering your front teeth you may end up spending a lot of money to replace these crowns after whitening. Perhaps you should consider porcelain veneers to permanently correct your smile.
I probably don’t have to tell you this but I mention it anyway. Cosmetic dentistry can be very expensive. However it is the only permanent whitening solution available today. If you decide to spend the money make sure your dentist can handle to job. Not all professionals are trained cosmetic dentists.
