Professional Teeth Whitening

Professional teeth whitening gels

When I started writing about professional teeth whitening I wanted to say in-office bleaching was history. As I spent more and more time searching for the best home whitening products I had to reconsider.

Why did I have a change of hearts?

No, powerful bleaching gels were not the reason. In fact I still don’t like the idea of bleaching my teeth with very potent chemicals. (Dentists use up to 35% hydrogen peroxide gels. At-home products hardly ever reach 10%.)

I still think your teeth can be just as white if you choose to whiten your teeth at home. It takes longer but it is much cheaper.

However, as I learned more about cosmetic dentistry I had to realize:

Dentists can do much more than simply bleach your teeth.

Laser teeth whitening and gum decease

Perhaps the strongest advantage of professional teeth whitening is the ability to kill gum decease causing bacteria.

Light assisted or laser teeth whitening is the only whitening method that actually eliminates most of these germs. You simply cannot do this at home.

However killing bacteria is only one of the top 4 reasons for choosing professional teeth whitening.

Laser technology use relatively high powered laser lights. But germs can also be killed using special low powered lights.

I always want to lower risk. That is why I like BriteSmile so much. If I wanted to whiten my teeth and improve my gum decease problem at the same time I would definitely consider BriteSmile. Does it worth the price? That you must decide.

If you read some of the other pages on this website you will know I don’t like to recommend things I don’t believe in.

Here is what I think you should know about BriteSmile.

Professional whitening can do even more:

There are times when cosmetic dentistry is your only option. – When your teeth are in very bad shape teeth bleaching is not a true solution anymore. You need professional help.

Professional teeth whitening when all else fails

Certain stains can be removed even when hydrogen peroxide fails. But these procedures use abrasive chemicals. These chemicals are only available to your dentist because these may permanently damage your teeth. So, when at-home teeth bleaching fails to whiten up certain spots you still have a little hope before those porcelain veneers.

There are other times when whitening at home would be too risky for you. If you have certain dental health problems you should consider seeing your dentist.

I want to close with this

As I said earlier I believe at-home bleaching can be very effective. Sometimes even your dentist will ask you to continue your whitening treatment at home.

Professional teeth whitening is powerful but results are unpredictable. Your teeth will respond similarly to home bleaching. This is why I did not say your teeth will be whiter after in-office bleaching. However the other advantages are very convincing indeed.
