Get yourself a cheep shade guide.
Maybe you need only 2 shades of whitening, maybe you need 10 shades. Once you know, you can set more realistic expectations for yourself. It is much harder to lighten up your teeth 10 shades than 2 shades. If you don’t have a whitening kit yet, knowing your goal will help you find the best whitening method. You should definitely consider tray based whitening if you want more than 3-4 shades whiter teeth. Not all whitening kits come with a shade guide. You need a guide to record the shade of your teeth before you begin your whitening treatment. Even if your at-home whitening kit comes with a shade guide it is a good idea to get a second one for comparison. The cheapest and fastest way to get a shade guide: Arm and Hammer Advance White® toothpaste. This whitening toothpaste comes with a free shade guide. And it tastes good too. You can find it in most supermarkets. I wouldn’t expect 3 shades whiter teeth after one tube of toothpaste – as it is claimed on the box – but using whitening toothpaste is always a good idea to prepare your teeth for additional bleaching.
