How to Brush and Floss before Each Teeth Whitening Treatment
How to get ready for your daily teeth whitening treatment?
Eat now!
Each of your whitening treatment can take as long as 4 hours. You should not eat or drink during this time and for some more time even after. Begin your preparations. Satisfy our hunger before bleaching, so you don’t need to eat for the next 4 to 6 hours.
See? Teeth whitening can even help you loose some weight too.
Floss of Not to Floss?
Some sources say floss before your daily bleaching. Others say don’t. What to do then?
Your teeth must be clean before you begin your daily whitening treatment.
On the other hand flossing can leave minor cuts on your gum line. These little bruises can increase sensitivity during and after bleaching.
The best approach is to floss lightly after your finished your meal. Do not floss immediately before whitening. After flossing wait at least 30 minutes to an hour to begin your daily treatment.
Brush or Not to Brush?
The same rules apply to brushing. You should lightly brush your teeth before each teeth whitening treatment.
Try to leave a 30 minute to an hour gap between brushing and bleaching.
Hard brushing can also damage your gums causing sensitivity. That is why you should try not to brush hard and immediately before whitening.
Use desensitizing toothpaste if possible. My favorite is Sensodyne® Extra Whitening.
It contains 5% potassium nitrate to treat tooth sensitivity.
It also contains fluoride to strengthen your tooth enamel.
Rinse or Not to Rinse?
Rinsing is really up to you. Several whitening kits come with some kind of pre-whitening mouthwash.
However one caution here: Rinsing with acidic substances directly before your teeth whitening treatment is not a good idea. Acids weaken your tooth enamel. It is the last thing you want to do before bleaching.
