Why do teeth fade shortly after whitening treatments?

Don’t worry; there is nothing wrong with you. Unfortunately it is normal to see some whiteness disappearing in the morning.

High concentration tooth bleaching gels – especially the ones your dentist would use – whiten your teeth faster because the gel generates many more oxygen bubbles in a short period of time. More oxygen does a faster job bleaching your teeth.

As a result of fast bleaching when your tooth whitening treatment is done you still have a lot of bubbles in your teeth. These bubbles make your teeth look whiter than it really is.

Next thing you do is go home have a good night sleep, wake up in the morning, look into the mirror, notice the difference, feel that pressure around your tummy, start brushing the overnight dirt away and just hope all that money wasn’t for nothing.

What you don’t know is while you were asleep the some of that oxygen left your teeth. Now there are no bubbles to give you that extra sparkle.

What can you do about it?

Unfortunately nothing. What you saw yesterday was somewhat better than the truth is. In a few days you will see the actual results of your tooth whitening treatment.

The good news: This initial loss of whiteness happens mostly after in-office treatments. At-home tooth whitening kits come with lower concentration gels. Thus the initial loss of sparkle is less noticeable.
